Nearly eight months ago, Batchelor star Colton Underwood came out to a gagged nation and Netflix announced a six-part reality show Coming Out Colton which was released last month and received a mixed response from the LGBT+ community.

Most of the negativity came from fact that there had been accusations of harassment and stalking levelled at Underwood by his past girlfriend Cassie Randolph (who later dropped the charges), and by other people who questioned whether we really needed to see another privileged white male getting a whole TV show to talk about himself. The fact that he’s easy on the eye surely had something to do with it.

Gay Olympian Gus Kenworthy serves as Underwood’s “gay guide” throughout the series, which left a lot of gays left wondering where their ‘gay guide’ was and saying that it just further added to the privilege of it all. Sour grape perhaps but more to the point, who is this fit guide?
But who is Gus Kenworthy? Well he is a British-American freestyle skier as well as an actor and (of course) YouTuber. Looking at these shots, it’s no wonder that Ryan Murphy deemed him primetime ready, casting him in a main role in American Horror Story: 1984.

With bulging muscles, a cheeky grin and seriously hot energy, we were rooting to see Gus and Colton get it on but hey, it’s not that kinda show. Kenworthy competes in slopestyle, halfpipe and big air. He won the silver medal in the Men’s Slopestyle in the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 and has actually been representing good ole Great Britain since 2019. Lord knows we could use the snow boys on Team GB!

In the last week, Underwood has spoken out about abuse he has received online from, you guessed it, Evangelical Christians! Colton describes himself as a Christian but being so high profile, he was bound to attract the ire of the zealots when he came out. He described the abuse as “not okay” which is quite the understatement.

Colton posted some screenshots of such messages, along with the caption: “for those of you who saw my show you know I’m still on my faith journey. while I’ve had a ton of support from the Christian community I’ve also heard “well it’s got a lot better over the years” and while that might be true I can’t help but to think if these messages still get sent to me…what is being said to closeted men and women who want to remain in their faith?”
Underwood wasn’t pulling any punches, and continued: “These messages are not okay. They do not represent Christians. They do not represent our God.” He went on to detail how some people didn’t even people that he was gay and in the new era of ‘alternative facts’ in the USA right now, it’s not really a surprise.
